Sports Guards

CoMo Dental fabricates custom sports guards to protect teeth and ensure healthy smiles during sporting events. A damaged tooth during participation in a sporting event can result in a lifetime of pain, expense, and future dental procedures. A custom sports guard is the best way to keep trauma to the teeth from becoming a problem in the future. One great advantage of custom made sports guards is the ability to talk and breathe through the mouth while the guard is in. Store-bought guards tend to fall off the teeth when the mouth opens.

Nightguards

A nightguard is a bite plate worn at night to decrease clenching or grinding of teeth. It is made to ensure that the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is kept at a more relaxed position throughout sleep, and to decrease tooth wear from grinding. Temporomandibular disorders may be caused by a jaw or head injuries, arthritis, tooth grinding, and/or anxiety(stress). Signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders include:

• ear pain
• tender jaw muscles
• clicking or popping noises in the jaw
• difficulty opening or closing the mouth
• pain when yawning or chewing
• jaw joints that feel locked or stuck
• headaches.
